The effortless inbetween
Our effort to find is, at times, the very reason that we lose. It's as if by searching for more, we lose all that we already possess. When the thing we are looking for is ourselves, we are the thing that's lost. Our presence in the world is not characterized by our thoughts, rather our awareness. How much we can see is void of what we are looking for. In the search for meaning, we often lose our own. How can you find yourself anywhere but where you are? This is not to say we don't learn about ourselves over time; rather, you don't learn in effort to find, but in willingness to listen. In the present moment, your perspective is your strength. In a way it seems like the world attempts to pacify that which is already at peace.
Our relative comfort with the world is not characterized by the world, it's who we are and our relation to it. The cure to our ailments is, at times, found in the realization that we can be that which heals the self. Between the past and future lie all the spoils of now—and these spoils are, at times, the stepping stones to our passions. The progressive realization of a worthy ideal isn't about waiting either, it's about bringing your ideal future to where you are now. This is why I believe efforts to tend to the future often cause displacement with what you can do now to build that future. If we don't learn to love who we are now and where we are now, then it won't be present. Life is filled with what you give it, and if you yourself are full of that which you want to be present in your life, then as long as you're here it too will be present.
